Green Screen Shots

Heres some of the shots from last weeks green screen work. Used the awesome Keylight plug-in on After Effects to strip out the green screen. The second still has a transparent background in AE ( jpgs don't have this feature ) so you can use the background plate. Add in an explosion, light spill, screen shake and you have it. Almost sounds easy doesnt it ?

Day 01.5

Fresh as a dustbin after the Zombie Fest weekender i spent the morning at De Montfort University green screen facility. DMU had kindly given us permission to use the equipment for free. I also had two great technicians, Mambia and Paul, to set up the system and tweak as we went along.

The M2 adaptor flips the image 180 degrees. This caused much head scratching as the live feed green screen monitor didn't flip so the image was still upside down. After several minuets Mambia came back with a correctly orientated image - he'd turned the monitor upside down. A low tech solution for a high tech problem.

The shoot went fine with Dip and Jags walking towards the screen then throwing themselves back as if by an explosion. All we have to do know is create that explosion !

Zombie Fest 2007

DWE were invited to show their short film version of Zombie Undead at the three day Zombie Fest 2007 and it went down a storm with Kris, Gav ( lead SFX ), and myself all there to witness it. The brain child of Terror4Fun the festival centers on a LRP ( Live Role Play), which means participants take on the role of a character, dress as and act as that character within scripted scenarios. 2007 saw Zombie Fest set in the village of Willard during the summer of 1977 and started with the traditional village fete and ended with a handful of survivors, loads of undead and gallons of blood. In addition to the LRP are zombie themed events such as archery and shooting. Other highlights were make up demonstrations by legend Stuart Conran ( Hellraiser, Shaun Of The Dead ) and films.

Day 01 - first production still !

Commencement of principal photography on Zombie Undead ! Goresome. The trails and tribulations of pre-production are over. Well not quite - the spread ouit nature of the project means pre, production and post are intertwined. But anyway back to the day. As one of the few external scenes we were blessed with great weather for this. The M2 adapter our DP uses eats of a stop or two of light so a wide shot on an overcast day would just not happen. As it was we got great light. Everything went to plan and we nailed the shots we needed. Our DP Neill did some acrobatics as he stationed himself precariously over a 10 foot drop to get the subway security camera shots. Awesome. Off to export the footage to the mac so Kris can get to work on the edit.

The Day Before

Shot List ready, crew and cast scheduled, we're all ready to go. Only a half day shoot tomorrow so a nice easy start to the filming. All external shots with just one cast member and a mobile crew. Its chronologically the first scene of the film which we will cut around the titles. An un-named bomber gets off a train, walks around crowded streets before planting his bomb, walking off then detonating it. We're gonna chop this up in the edit suite with time re-maps,hand crank and de-saturation to get that messed up look. This is going to be an awesome start.
